Its Local History

Scotch-Irish settlers in the late 1600s brought the names "Mountjoy" and "Donegal" from their homeland of Ireland to Lancaster County, where modern-day Mount Joy was eventually established. Many villages including Mount Joy began to spring up in the area over the next couple of centuries, and in 1851, small settlements were incorporated into the Borough of Mount Joy. By 1963, Mount Joy became the town that we see today.
