York is the county seat of York County, so it is centrally located to major highways, commercial centers, and other York County communities. Lancaster and Harrisburg are both about 25 miles away from the city of York.

York, PA is served by several public school districts within York County. York City School District serves students living closest to the downtown area; Central York serves students living northeast of York in communities like Manchester Township, North York Borough, and Springettsbury Township; West York serves students living near Carlisle Road, including in communities like West Manchester Township and the Borough of West York; and York Suburban serves students in the southeastern portion of the city.

Did you know York is considered the first capital of the United States? In the 1770s, the Continental Congress moved the nation's government from Philadelphia to Lancaster (due to advancing British troops), and then from Lancaster to York (since Lancaster was home to Pennsylvania's state government). The Articles of Confederation were drafted in York just a few years later.
